There are currently 91 students enrolled in the Curriculum and they are training in over 30 laboratories in ten departments on the UNC-CH campus. Student research projects include the generation and characterization of mouse models of human diseases, the characterization of molecular mechanisms of replication, recombination and repair, the control of gene expression, and the genetic basis of carcinogenesis. During their first year, students enroll in graduate-level courses and participate in laboratory rotations. Subsequently, students select a faculty research advisor and establish an advisory committee. Research work is done in the laboratory facilities of the individual faculty members and is supported primarily by faculty research grants and an NIH training grant.
